Messi's optimism for the future+ Messi training with Argentina

Yesterday, Messi posted on his social media a message of optimism and confidence for Argentina in the Copa América. His words were: "We are ready to compete and we will keep fighting to win every game. Let's go Argentina!🇦🇷". It got responded by a teammate (Di María) and an ex-teammate (Lavezzi), as well as popular Argentine tennis player Diego Schwartzman.

Also, he uploaded a video to his social media of him training with the national team. It was a 32 second long clip with Luz Delito from Wos playing in the background.

Yesterday, Messi posted on his Instagram account a very important message. He's presented Adidas' Run For The Oceans campaign, the 4th year of the movement. His main message is about plastic waste, and it has an interesting proposal of "For every kilometer you run that's tracked in the app, Adidas and Parley will clean up the equivalent weight of 10 plastic bottles, up to 500,000 pounds from beaches and islands.".

Specifically, he said:

Messi announces 5 shirt giveaways on Instagram

Yesterday, Messi announced on Instagram that he would give away 5 signed shirts from him in the 2020/21 Barcelona home kit. This is done to celebrate the launch of the official FC Barcelona memorabilia collection. To participate, all you need to do is to tag a friend in the comments and follow the account @icons_memorabilia.

What Messi said in the original Instagram post was "Hello everyone! Messi's support for vaccines

A few days ago, Messi expressed his support for vaccines, joining UNICEF in celebrating World Immunization Week. This is a very important message from him considering the current situation and the administration of COVID-19 vaccines.

Specifically, he said "Vaccines save the lives of 3 million children around the world every year, protecting them from life-threatening and highly infectious diseases.

Vaccines work, they are necessary and safe! That's why I join @UNICEF in celebrating World Immunization Week.

Messi reaches 200 million followers on Instagram

A few days ago, Messi reached 200 million followers on Instagram, a big milestone for Messi in social media terms. And despite having so many followers, he's only made 706 posts (705 when he reached 200M), which is a Follower per Post ratio of 283.688, the highest on Instagram's history, which proves how massive he is.

Instead of a usual "thank you" post, Messi made an awareness post about online abuse, with the hashtags #BastaYa #StopOnlineAbuse and #EnoughIsEnough. He got congratulated by people like Di María, Marc Bartra, Jeison Murillo, Pep Morata, Nicolás Vázquez, Patrick Kluivert, and his own wife Antonella Roccuzzo. The entire post can be found here.

Messi's influence on social media grows more and more by the day. The next milestone to be reached is Team Messi reaching 3 million followers on Twitter, being only 16K followers away. But until then, I'll see you in the next blog.

Messi's followers on social media

Although he's not active on social media, not even having an official Twitter account, he still has an impressive amount of followers, which will be today's topic.

On Instagram, he has 195 million followers, which is more than the population of Bangladesh, Russia, Mexico, and Japan. It's even 4 times the population of Argentina. Since his first post on August 14th 2013, he's made 696 posts on his Instagram, which equates to around 1 every 4 days, so a bit reserved.

Moving to Facebook, Messi has over 101 million followers, as well as over 90 million likes on his Facebook page. He's not very active here either. As a fun fact, he got 6.5 million followers in his first 3 hours back when he created his account in April 2011.

Those are the 2 only social media sites where Messi has an official account, but on Twitter Team Messi does have an official account, so it's close enough. Over there, Team Messi has almost 2.98 million followers, so very near the 3 million mark.

As we can see, despite having limited usage on his 2 main social media platforms, and not even having one on Twitter (the closest being a fan movement founded by Adidas), he still amasses a massive following which only demonstrates how popular he is all over the world.
